Missoula Redevelopment Agency looks to purchase property in Midtown Missoula | Missoula

MIAAOULA, Mont. – In Midtown Missoula, there’s a piece of property that the Missoula Redevelopment Agency (MRA) has their eyes on.

The MRA is in a due diligence period for this new plot of land. For the MRA to purchase the land, and appraisal would need to be done and the land would need to be surveyed. All these factors will be considered before the MRA gets ready to buy the property.

Housing, park land, and connectivity are reasons why the MRA finds this land valuable. The due diligence period is currently 90 days, but the possibility of an extension is on the table.  This piece of land is located near Southgate Mall, in Urban Renewal District Three.

The property being looked at is right behind Bob Ward’s in Missoula. Specifically, to the south and the west.

“It’s a great opportunity. It’s right on the trail. We are very deficient in park land in that part of the city. So, this is going to give us the opportunity to create a park and meet some of the variety of housing needs that we have here,” said Ellen Buchanan, Director of the MRA.

The MRA board has approved of up to $75,000 for cost of due diligence. According to Buchanan, people will be out to look at the land in the next week or so. Part of the land is owned by Southgate Mall associates and part of it is owned by the partnership of the Scott and Beach families.

Currently, the MRA just has a purchase agreement with the owners of the land.
