NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The owners of Guru’s Fine Indian Cuisine, who are in India working to complete the adoption of two girls, said they plan on returning to Bucks County once the adoption is complete to either resume operations at its current site or at a future location.

Owners Priya and Ashni Guru closed their restaurant at Sycamore and Jefferson streets in early January to travel to India to finalize the adoption, which had become mired in bureaucratic red tape. They have since put their restaurant and building in Newtown on the market.

In an Instagram message updating their followers on the adoption process and the potential sale of the property, Priya wrote, “We tried for over 11 months to do everything in our power to continue Gurus operations while we are gone but sadly we couldn’t make it happen.

“We do not have huge savings ourselves to pay the hefty mortgage every month so we had to approach the bank for the possible solution for the situation, and the conversations were not very
cooperative and in the end the building did go on sale,” she wrote.

The couple has retained SVN Commercial Real Estate to market the property and entertain offers for the nearly 6,000-square-foot restaurant and liquor license from potential investors, buyers, and developers. The property is currently fit out as a restaurant space with seating for 140+ patrons indoors with additional outside dining available on a wraparound porch.

“We were told that if the building is not sold by the time we are back, we are welcome to continue our operations,” Priya wrote. “If it does sell by the time we are back to satisfy the loan, we will be looking for a new home for Guru’s and as we always said, ‘As long as Baba is cooking, I’m serving to all of you beautiful family. Guru is anywhere that is happening.”

In her Instagram post, Priya also shares the progress the couple is making with their adoption efforts in India.

“Thank you so much for all the prayers and love. I cannot explain in the words how confident it has made me the way I walked into that courtroom with so much confidence. Like I was saying before leaving that everyone’s love and support is my armor and I really, really truly appreciate it! It has made us stronger,” she wrote.

“We have made several trips to Delhi and we have made several trips to state level. We finally have the signature that we were waiting for almost 13 months. We have to make sure that it moves from state level to central level. And then we work on USCIS.

“Once again, thank you so much for all the support and prayers,” writes Priya. “It has worked miracles for me and my family. Please continue sending us your prayers, and I will make sure to keep posting updates as soon as we have a significant moment.”
