On February 13, the Super Junior member finally released a statement regarding the allegations of his involvement in cryptocurrency fraud. Strongly denying the rumours, Siwon clarified that he is not a brand ambassador for the fraudulent company. “I wish to express explicitly that I have no involvement with regard to the controversy surrounding the Korea Youth Committee’s Youth Pay. Furthermore, I have never been appointed as an ambassador for the Korea Youth Committee’s Youth Pay,” the idol-actor wrote.

While Siwon did admit that he had attended a ceremony hosted by a youth committee, that had launched the cryptocurrency, the SuJu member maintained it was only to accept an award. “While I have received an award at a ceremony organized by the Korea Youth Committee, this was in recognition of setting a good example for the youth, as intended by the committee, and is unrelated to the current controversy,” he said.

For the unversed, Choi Siwon was implicated in allegations surrounding a cryptocurrency that many are accusing as a scam. The coin is currently being suspected of being a pump-and-dump scheme in which scammers lure investors to invest in the coin before they sell the coin at high prices.
