SAN DIEGO, CA — Wednesday is the deadline for San Diego County residents to pay the second installment of their property taxes without incurring penalties.

The total amount owed is $8.63 billion dollars, $566 million more than last year’s total of $8.1 billion, according to the San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office.

“A 10% penalty fee is incurred for late payments, and that adds up, so we’re encouraging people to go online and pay today,” County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said.

The County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office sent 1,013,632 tax bills in early October.

Property taxes are due in two installments. The first property tax installment was due on Nov. 1, 2023. The second installment was due Feb. 1. Property tax becomes delinquent after Wednesday, according to the County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office.

“Property taxes fund essential county and city services,” McAllister said. “Public health, public schools, and many more critical services are funded by these tax dollars.”

Residents can view and pay their bill online at sdttc.com before midnight Wednesday.

Taxpayers can also pay by phone at 855-829-3773, mail or in person at one of the branch offices before 5 p.m. Wednesday.  Mail must be postmarked before or on Wednesday.
