Volusia County Schools closes on property for Enterprise Elementary

DELAND — At its last meeting, the Volusia County School Board unanimously approved closing on a DeBary property which will serve as the site for a new Enterprise Elementary.

The board in December approved purchasing the property, located at Buckley Drive and Charles R. Beall Boulevard, for $4.73 million.

According to the Agreement for Assignment of Real Estate Purchase Agreement approved in December, after providing written notice of intent to proceed, Volusia County Schools had 120 days to “perform and complete its due diligence investigation of the property.”

According to the April 9 meeting agenda’s attachment, surveyor Scott Bechir added wetland areas to the boundary survey FEMA flood zones exhibit

The board originally voted to replace Enterprise Elementary at its Aug. 8 meeting. Three of the school’s buildings were built before 1973, and five were built in the 1970s, nearing their 50-year mark.

A Castaldi report, which determines if existing school buildings should be replaced with new ones, was put together by SchenkelShultz Architecture. It noted building drainage issues, uneven sidewalks causing pedestrian safety concerns, insufficient stormwater structure and other infrastructure problems with the current site at 211 Main St.
