Vigo Schools to auction off surplus property, including buses

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local school corporation is looking to get rid of some property it no longer needs.

But one corporation’s trash, could be your treasure.

Saturday, the Vigo County School Corporation will auction off their “surplus property.”

Items include furniture, equipment, and even a few school buses. The organization holds auctions like this once or twice per year.

The money raised by the auction will go into the corporation’s general fund.

Dr. John Newport is the VCSC Chief Operating Officer, he explains that there is a wide variety of items available.

“Some of the other items, we have some kitchen items,” Newport said. “I was just walking through there. There’s a balance beam, an old balance beam from gymnastics that’s in there and just some of those things that we’ve removed from the schools. As I mentioned earlier, we have some tables and chairs that aren’t feasible for classroom use anymore and so we put those into the auction.”

The auction will be held Saturday, May 11 beginning at 10 a.m. at the building north of 3250 Maple Avenue on Brown Avenue. Officials advise attendees to watch for signage in the area indicating the location of the auction.

Pickup of purchased items will take place two hours after the sale ends, as well as 7:30 a.m. – noon on Monday.
