In response to your March 12 Editorial, I wanted to give some perspective: I have rented 3 or 4 different properties on the island at Rio Del Mar. I am not a gazillionaire, nor am I an owner, just an occasional renter. In all the times I’ve been there until the last time I rented, the patios of all the homes had been private. Also there had always been fences at each end until whatever power that be tore them out a few years back.

I simply can’t understand what all the fuss is about. There is ample beach access at each end of the island, and moreover there is a sidewalk at the front of every home on the island permitting more than adequate public beach access. Also, the beach in front of all the patios in question is 100% public and the public has always freely used it. Maybe I am old school, but I feel property owners deserve their privacy rights.
