Police investigating after Bikers Against Predators conducts operation on school property

BERNIE, Mo. (KFVS) – An organization called, “Bikers Against Predators” conducted an operation at a school in Bernie, Missouri.

According to a statement from Bernie R-13 Superintendent Brad Botsch, the organization was on school property where a 50-year-old man from Dexter, Mo. came down to allegedly meet a 13-year-old girl.

Botsch said this group conducts these types of operations randomly across the nation in an effort to expose child predators.

According to the statement, no students from the school were involved and there was no victim. The organization uses a decoy to expose potential child predators.

Botsch said the organization called the Bernie Police Department to report property damage to a guide wire that the man ran into with his truck when he abruptly left after they confronted him.

He said the group also notified the officer on duty about the child solicitation incident.

Chief Rick Cook with the Bernie Police Dept. also responded to the incident.

“I wanted to inform the community that we began an active investigation in conjunction with Dexter Police Department and Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney, Sawyer Smith, after receiving this information last night. The school was immediately notified as well. The investigation is ongoing and we appreciate the community support.”

Botch said neither the school district nor the Bernie Police Dept. knew the operation was going to take place.

Both the Bernie Police Dept. and the Dexter Police Dept. are working closely with the school to investigate.
