BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. — A more than 100-year-old house is part of an online auction of surplus Sullivan County Schools property.
The auction includes two lots along Henry Harr Road near West Ridge High School and Interstate 81’s Exit 63. The online auction began Monday and continues through Jan. 22 on the school system’s website.
The sale will remain live until Jan. 22 until noon. Then, at 1 p.m., Jan. 22, there will be a live internet sale from 1-4 p.m. for the two lots combined.
One lot, at 899 Henry Harr Road is approximately one acre in size. It features a two-story farmhouse believed to have been constructed around 1900, according to the online auction.
The farmhouse is about 2,000 square feet and features two bathrooms. There is also a detached four car garage on the property, the auction states.

The minimum bid on Monday was set at $75,000.
The second lot is about one acre and is located adjacent to 899 Henry Harr Road. The lot is vacant, according to the auction. Its minimum bid is set at $50,000.
The property is being sold as is and a quitclaim deed will be executed to the successful bidder, according to the auction. In addition, the auction accepts cash, certified check or cashier’s check; no money orders or personal checks will be accepted. The successful purchaser will be required to pay the bid amount in full to the Sullivan County Department of Education, 154 Blountville Bypass, Blountville, TN, upon the delivery of the deed.
Sullivan County acquired the property in 2017 for the construction of West Ridge High School, which is just south from the two lots across Russell Creek. The county had acquired more than 100 acres fronting Henry Harr Road, Lynn Road and Interstate 81.
This is the second time the Sullivan County Board of Education has attempted to sell the lots.
Last year, no bids were received and the school board had discussed swapping the land to develop an access road for the high school.
School Board Member Randall Jones, who often provided updates to the board on the project, said a cemetery kept the access road from developing.
