Bid submissions for a new agricultural property lease now open

NEWS RELEASE

BOULDER COUNTY PARKS AND OPEN SPACE

************************

Newly updated agricultural lease contract guidelines are now posted on the Agricultural Leases webpage and provide opportunities for farmers and ranchers to take advantage of support from Boulder County Parks & Open Space Agricultural Resources program. The goal of the program is to support agriculture in Boulder County, an important community value to residents. This includes supporting the farmers’ livelihoods, their families, and their way of life.

Boulder County is now accepting bid submissions for the Clark (John) property through April 12. The annual rent for the Clark property is $9,540, which includes access to a hay shed. To apply for consideration, please go to the Bidding Opportunities webpage.

Boulder County charges below market rates for leasing agricultural land to ensure that farming is economically viable. The leasing charges total less than a landowner would pay in property taxes in Boulder County.

In addition, Boulder County Parks & Open Space staff provides support and resources (expenses total $3.5 million annually) including:

  • Water assessments.
  • Fencing contracts for replacing and maintaining fences.
  • Water monitoring required by the State of Colorado.
  • Share of input costs including fertilizer and compost on crop share properties.
  • Prairie dog control on agricultural lands and reimbursements for prairie dog damage ($3.2 million annually for prairie dog control and reimbursements).
