A new More Family Collection property opens in South Africa wildlife park: Travel Weekly

The More Family Collection has added to its exclusive-use properties with the addition of the Marataba Residence. Situated within South Africa’s malaria-free Marakele National Park, this new lodge offers families a private safari experience within the Waterberg Mountains.

Set in a remote corner of the 88-square-mile reserve in northeastern South Africa, the Marataba Residence guarantees exclusive wildlife encounters, including the Big Five. Guests will enjoy a dedicated field guide and safari vehicle for maximum safari flexibility.

The residence features four standalone bedrooms and a main lodge with a lounge, bar, dining area, swimming pool and fire deck overlooking the Matlabas River. Families will appreciate the specialized activities for children, among them nature treasure hunts, spoor identification and stargazing.

For Robert More, CEO and custodian of the More Family Collection, it’s about valuable time together.

“Families need time together to reconnect and there’s nowhere better than in nature to pause and feel replenished,” he said. “It’s a memorable African adventure experience where guests can set their own pace and simply be.”

Rhino encounters

There’s also an opportunity for travelers to participate in rhino conservation between April and September. During this experience, they can join conservationists in a rhino veterinary intervention, directly supporting efforts to safeguard the species. Each intervention offers a hands-on experience with a single rhino, lasting from 30 minutes to two hours. Once the rhino is located and sedated, guests will actively participate in the activity, involving tasks that may include fitting tracking collars; ear-notching; collecting blood and tissue samples; and microchipping of horns. This experience does not include dehorning interventions.

This new exclusive-use option adds to the More Family Collection’s growing portfolio of luxury properties in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
