2024 Cook County Assessor Property Tax Appeals accepted through April 19

Evanston property owners concerned about their property taxes can submit an appeal to the Cook County Assessor through Friday, April 19.

Property owners are strongly encouraged to file an appeal on their own online. Filing online is a simple and quick process that should take no more than 20 minutes. It is not necessary to submit comparable properties with your appeal, although you can search for comps online, as well. Those interested in submitting an appeal can view a video tutorial created by the Cook County Assessor’s Office.

Property owners seeking assistance filing an appeal should submit an Appeal Authorization form no later than April 12 to have their appeal filed on their behalf. For assistance, email mgibbs@cityofevanston.org.

It is highly recommended that property owners file their appeals online or complete an electronic appeal authorization form in lieu of in-person visits, which are by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 19.

As a reminder, Cook County tax bills always arrive one year late. Property owners should note that the money-saving effects of successful 2024 appeals will not appear on tax bills until summer of 2025.
