Whitestown Navy Vet receives mortgage free home after rare diagnoses

WHITESTOWN, Ind. — A Navy Veteran is rejoicing after receiving a mortgage-free home from the PulteGroup’s Build to Honor organization.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Robert Orr was presented with the keys to his newly constructed residence on Wednesday at the Home Dedication Ceremony in Whitestown.

“We’re a community that honors our law enforcement, our firefighters, our veterans, our active service members,” said Whitestown Council President Dan Patterson. “We’re a community that celebrates you on your best day, and we’re there for you on your worst.”

Orr was escorted to his new abode in the Bridle Oaks Community by the Gordon Pipers and motorcycle-cade. During the reveal, at 6825 Bridle Oaks Ct, the crowd yelled, “move that sign,” revealing the 84th home constructed by PulteGroup.

Orr’s decision to join the Navy was inspired by his brother’s service in the maritime force. “So after 9/11 and seeing my brother, I said I got to be next up to join this fight and protect this country…” said Orr. Although he had plans for a long military career as a sailor, they were shortened by a rare service-related medical diagnosis.

“Putting on that uniform changed my life. I was able to go to other places, change other people’s lives, and actually save some lives myself,” said Orr.
