A COUPLE has revealed the tiny home build that helped them become mortgage-free.
The pair created what’s known as a “barndominium,” a barn-style structure with metal sheet siding converted into a fully furnished living space.
Homeowners Tiffany and Dale (@dreamingonadime) took viewers through a tour of the property in a recent video, where they noted that materials for the entire structure were included in a kit.
It cost them $26,500 after everything was set and done, although they’re continuing to make additions to the interior and exterior of the home.
“It’s a 30 by 40 pole barn,” Dale explained in the clip, showing the front of the structure with its grey metal siding, white supporting beams, and windows.
“We bought the pole barn kit from DIY Pole Barns in Ohio.”
Dale explained that the kit only excluded windows and doors.
The areas for them to be placed were pre-cut, but the homeowners would have to purchase and install them on their own.
While Dale and his father put together much of the space themselves, according to Tiffany, the entire structure was put up first by a building company known as Rock Steady Builders.
The builders also put in the doors and windows that weren’t included in the kit.
“When [the builders] left, we had the building, windows, and doors,” Dale told viewers.
“That was it — you opened the front door, and you were stepping into the mud pretty much.”
The couple later brought in experts to install plumbing into the ground that was cemented over.
Dale also began work completing the outdoor porch, which was completed with a ceiling that he burned, stained, and nailed himself.
“There’s a lot more to do out here,” Dale said of the outer section of the barndominium.
The ground was covered in gravel under the porch ceiling, with some outdoor homeware and a grill, among other items.
INTERIOR TRANSFORMATION
After taking viewers inside, Tiffany and Dale showed viewers that it was far from mud.
There was hardwood flooring, drywall, a kitchen table, patio door, living room furniture, and more.
The kitchen sink and granite countertops were also complete, along with a few lighting fixtures and wooden cabinetry.
Most of the interior was painted shades of grey with other color accents.
The couple already equipped the barndominium with stainless steel appliances, a washer and dryer, and a fully-functioning water heater.
They also carved out a master bedroom and a second bedroom for their children.
Both bedrooms were fully completed, one bathroom was finished, and the other still needed to be put in.
While there was still plenty left to do, the barndominium was well worth the investment for Dale and Tiffany.
The best part was that it allowed them to be mortgage-free after selling their previous residence and opting for the unique barndominium.
“I could see myself living here for the rest of my life,” Dale said.
