WINSTON-SALEM — The City of Winston-Salem is working with community outreach programs to assist residents with a new loan project.
The Neighborhood Services Department held its first meeting tonight with Transforming Urban Residential Neighborhoods Program, or better known as “TURN” to provide resources to Winston-Salem homeowners.
Through TURN, Residents in applicable zones can apply for forgivable home improvement loans to repair necessities like roofing, plumbing and electrical systems.
Neighborhood Services says residents will be chosen for loans based off a scoring system.
“We’re looking at if someone is disabled, we’re looking at if they have young children in the home, we’re looking at what location they’re in, we’re looking at the age of the home. We’re looking at their income, there’s a number of things we’re looking at to verify,” said Samuel Hunter, Assistant Dir. of Neighborhood Services.
Paper application cycles will open on June 1st and close June 31st, and will be available at these five recreational centers across Winston-Salem:

TURN also offers emergency loans for more serious home repairs year-round.
