The San Mateo County Harbor District is considering pulling some investments from state and county investment pools and placing them with alternative firms, following similar action taken by the Santa Cruz Port District to mitigate revenue loss after the closure of the 2023 salmon season.
Harbor District General Manager James Pruett said at the Dec. 20 Board of Commissioners meeting that although the district would be looking into alternative investment funds and presenting these findings to the financial committee in January or February 2024, the Santa Cruz Port District example was only a jumping-off point, not a step-by-step model.
