Burlington mayor calls for investment in affordable housing

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Ava Vasile is the new all-time scoring leader for UVM women’s lacrosse, breaking the previous mark of 255 held by Sydney Mas, as the Cats snaped a four-game skid by downing LeMoyne 17-4 Wednesday afternoon at Virtue Field.
Vasile tied the record with two goals in the first eight and a half minutes, then added a third tally in the first quarter to set the new program mark. She’d add two more goals later in the game to push her running tally to 259 and counting.
“It’s crazy, I can’t believe I came this far,” Vasile said after the game. “I dreamt about it one day when I was a freshman so for it to come real is awesome, I’m very happy. I just saw the lane wide open and thought I’m just gonna rip this. Our gameplan was to shoot low so I stuck it low, it went in, and i was like oh my gosh, it happened.”
“It’s incredible,” head coach Sarah Dalton Graddock added after the game. “What Sydney Mas did in her time here, this record is nine years old I believe. That’s hard work over Ava’s five years that she’s been here. I’m so proud of her.”
The next mark in Vasile’s sights is the all-time goals mark, also held by Mas. Vasile is at 211 for her career and will need to score seven to tie or eight to pass Mas with two games left in Vermont’s season.
