JACKSON, Tenn. — On Thursday, May 2, the Tennessee Department Of Transportation shared that more than $4 million dollars has been designated to repair roads in West Tennessee.

There are currently 17 areas in our region that will experience some repairs.
These repairs are due to damage caused from last winter’s icy and snowy roads.

“The impacts of January’s winter storm affected the entire state. So these projects we’re working on throughout the state in West Tennessee specifically is due to that winter storm,” said Lawerence.
This month will begin with the milling and paving process that will help to smooth these roads.
Some of the targeted areas have already received some repairs.
“Some of them are already complete. You know on next week beginning on May 6th we are beginning a portion in the worse areas on State Route 22 in Henderson County. Beginning on the Chester County line and then working on the areas all the way to the Lexington city limits,” said Lawerence.

Lawerence also shares a schedule for drivers to be aware of.
“So we try every effort to make sure that we are doing these projects in non peak travel time. So 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. you’re gonna see some lane closures sporadically in these areas throughout the summer and the early fall to get these projects complete,” said Lawerence.
This construction is reliant on the weather.
“Weather permitting we will not leave anything milled without paving back over it, that’s just part of the process of putting down new asphalt. We have to mill up the old to put down the new,” said Lawerence.
During this process, make sure to watch out for road workers and slow down when approaching a site.
“Safety is number one priority. If you see our crews out there working make sure you’re moving over and slowing down. Work with us to make sure that we are going home to our families as you are trying to do,” said Lawerence.
According to TDOT, road work will take place on weekdays and may go later into the afternoon.
