Oakley native funds medical research | Community News

Mike Dangerfield, founder and CEO of Carey Executive Limousine in Atlanta, Georgia, pursues a life-long commitment to medical research.

Vowing to donate more than $5 million of his estate to scientific research, Dangerfield remains an advocate for advancing the endeavors of those who work tirelessly to improve treatment options for chronically ill patients. His dedication will be carried out by the teams at Emory School of Medicine’s Division of Cardiology, Winship Cancer Institute and the Emory National Primate Research Center.

Raised locally in Oakley and a 1960 graduate of Berkeley High School, Dangerfield’s philanthropic inspiration stems from the unfortunate sufferings of his loved ones. After he witnessed cancer of the jaw ending his father’s life; his only sibling struggles through bladder cancer, prostate cancer and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma; and his mother experiences a heart attack later followed by open heart surgery – it’s no surprise he understands first-hand how deeply disease can affect individuals and their families.

With sincere hope that his generosity creates a lasting impact on furthering medical knowledge and technology, Dangerfield finds comfort in being able to leave a legacy of such potential. With help from Emory’s gift planning office, his invaluable pledge was made possible, and he will be honored to leave behind this promise for a better future for generations to come.

Alongside his developing desire to make a difference in what medicine can do, Dangerfield has invested his life into making Carey Executive Limousine the successful business it is today. He continues to serve the metro Atlanta area, fulfilling the city’s chauffeur needs. A few short years after Dangerfeld’s high school graduation, he started Carey Atlanta as the city’s only limousine company. He said he eagerly looks forward to June 1 of this year, which marks 60 years of providing customer service to clients.
