JACKSON, Tenn. — 120-thousand dollars is being used for new security cameras to be installed at the West Tennessee Sportsplex.
“Currently we have security cameras at the Sportsplex but they’re not on the same system with our other buildings,” said Mayor of Jackson Scott Conger.
The goal is to have the ability to access security footage remotely.
One benefit of remote security and video surveillance is that footage can be seen in real-time and can be recorded and stored for weeks.

“This will allow everyone to have one system. That’s been a goal of our IT department to make sure that all of our buildings are in the same system,” said Conger.
This gives police and building managers the ability to review and monitor footage within the city’s buildings more easily.
Funds for the new security features were budgeted through the IT department.
With less than 4 months in the fiscal year, Mayor Conger says the departments and employees are monitoring their expenditures appropriately to not go over budget.
Other business discussed today shows that revenues are ahead of where they were projected.
“We projected slight decreases in our sales tax and we actually have slight increases. Property taxes are actually at a slight increase as well,” said Conger.
Overall, Conger shares he and other budget committee members are confident with the budget currently.
Other business matters that were discussed and approved in today’s meeting included 25-thousand dollars to grounds keeping for a service truck as well as insurance recovery funds for JPD and the Civic Center.
