The Trousdale County School District was awarded a mini-grant for $9,500 that will be used to fund three projects that will benefit both teachers and students.
The mini-grant was provided through Utrust.
Founded in 1980, Utrust, formerly the Tennessee School Boards Insurance Trust, is an organization that assists school systems across the state with unemployment issues, as well as recognizes, supports, and show appreciation to school employees.
The organization also sponsors the Utrust Appreciation Program, a student leadership program that seeks to help students recognize and express appreciation to those who daily make their lives better.
As part of its mission, Utrust offers mini-grants to its member school districts to help fund one-time projects that otherwise would not be funded.
This year, the mini-grants that were awarded to Tennessee school districts totaled more than $1 million.
“We are pleased that Utrust is able to fund small projects that will make a big difference,” said Utrust Administrator Dan Tollett. “We believe this project will make a big difference to staff members in Trousdale County Schools. We appreciate Dr. (Clint) Satterfield submitting this request. We’re glad to be a part of such worthy projects.”
According to Satterfield, the Trousdale County Director of Schools, from the $9,500 mini-grant, $1,800 will go towards employee appreciation day ($600 per school), $700 will be to the Trousdale County Imagination Library to promote early literacy, and $7,000 will go towards summer learning camp student rewards to encourage attendance and participation.
“We are grateful to Utrust for providing funds for our school system so that we will be able to carry out much-needed projects for which the school nor the district have allowable funds for such purposes,” said Satterfield. “We are fortunate to have these kinds of funds that do not come from taxpayers of Trousdale County for these projects.
“We want to foster a positive work environment and show the employees of Trousdale County Schools that we recognize that each one of them has a vital role in the success of our school system. We can never put a dollar amount on our appreciation for them, but these funds will allow our school district to show appreciation for the important work they do each day.”
Trousdale County was one of 51 school districts in Tennessee to receive a Utrust mini-grant.
