The elementary classes created a rainbow to salute the work of the Youngsville Fire Department and to benefit the owners of Lonnie’s Pizza that was destroyed in a blaze last month.

YOUNGSVILLE — Youngsville Elementary School students and staff participated in a Color Day fundraiser to raise donations to benefit Lonnie and Sandy Gouak, owners of Lonnie’s Pizza, as well as the Youngsville Fire Department.

Each grade level was assigned a color to wear: kindergarten, red; first grade, orange; second grade, yellow; third grade, green; fourth grade, blue and fifth grade, purple. The school raised a total of $464.

“We want to let the Gouaks know that our hearts are with them during this difficult time,” the school said in a statement. “In addition, we are so appreciative of the firefighters who volunteered their time to fight the fire for 6-plus hours the first night and 3 1/2 hours the following morning! One of our student’s fathers is one of the many firefighters who worked that night. We are proud to be part of and able to support the Youngsville community!”

Lonnie’s Pizza was damaged in a fire on the evening of Jan. 27. As of last week, the business offered its thanks to the community for its support and was still considering its options for the future.
