Maryland Democrat and U.S. Rep. David Trone has lent more than $54 million to his U.S. Senate primary campaign against Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, according to new Federal Election Commission reports.
Trone, the co-founder of the Total Wine & More retail chain who represents Frederick County and Western Maryland, has lent his campaign $54.1 million and spent about the same amount, said the report, which covers a period through April 24.
In her report, also filed Thursday, Alsobrooks said she has spent $5.9 million on the race. She has raised $7.8 million and reported having $1.9 million on hand.
Trone reported a $3.7 million balance.
The figures are designed to fill in much of the period from March 31, when the last financial report was required, until the primary.
The primary is May 14. Early voting began Thursday.
Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who is running in the Republican primary, reported raising $1.1 million between April 1 and April 24.
According to his campaign and FEC reports, Hogan has three accounts: Hogan for Maryland, his principal committee; the Hogan Victory Fund, a “pass-through” account that can transfer donations to the main fund; and Better Path Forward, a political action committee established before Hogan filed to run.
The candidates are vying to succeed Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin, who is not seeking reelection.
