Sioux City City Council approves property tax levy maximum, and land for baseball facility


SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Residents in Sioux City now know the maximum amount they will pay for their property tax levy for fiscal year 2025-2026.

The city council voted 5-0 Monday to set the maximum amount citizens would pay on their property taxes at roughly $17.66. According to city documents, that is an increase of 20% over the course of the levy. Last year’s levy was just over $16.40. A public hearing to set the final levy amount is set to take place on April 14th.

“The Factory” baseball and softball facility coming to Sioux City

A developer wants to bring a baseball and softball training facility to Sioux City.

According to city documents, David and Jeff Kerian want to construct the facility known as “The Factory” on a 1.49 acre plot of land, located at 800 Expo Center Drive. That parcel sits on the south end of the Seaboard Triumph Foods Expo Center.

The city council accepted the Kerian’s proposal on a 5-0 vote. The developer plans to invest a minimum of $700,000 to construct the 8,000 square foot facility. The city will sell that parcel of land to the Kerian’s which is worth $50,000. Construction for the new facility is set for no later than December 31st of this year. The city is also providing financial assistance for the project by giving the developers 75% tax rebates for a period of five years.

Ida Apartments rezoned for rehab

A 104-year-old Sioux City apartment building that was red tagged following a fire back in 2022 is getting rezoned for restoration.

The city council approved the rezoning request on a 5-0 vote. According to city documents, developer Scott Mann intends to restore the Ida Apartments. He needs the city to rezone the property from Mixed Use to Urban Residential, to allow for rehabbing the building. Mann stated in city documents that the property would retain the previous number of units, 28, and is looking to purchase nearby land for parking.
