Final Days for Senior Property Tax Freeze Applications

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — Seniors planning to apply for the popular senior real estate tax relief program in St. Charles County have until the end of the month to do so.
Eligible seniors have until Sunday, June 30 to apply for the program online. Applications sent by mail must have a postmark of June 29 or prior. Those wanting to walk in and drop off their application in person have until the close of business on Friday, June 28, as the County Administration building is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

So far, some 20,000 senior homeowners have applied since March 1. As many as 36,000 may be eligible for the program, which would freeze the real estate property taxes owed to all taxing jurisdictions within the county. Those interested are encouraged not to wait until the last day.

Eligibility requirements include:

• At least one owner of the home must be at least 62 as of January 1, 2024.
• Proof of Identification, home ownership and tax liability.
• To apply online, go to sccmo.org/SeniorTaxFreeze and fill out the online form.
• Paper applications are available in person in the County Administration Building lobby at 201 N. Second Street in St. Charles.

For those who need assistance with completing their application, the Collector of Revenue offers in-person appointments. Appointments for weekdays through June 28 can be scheduled by calling the Collector’s office.

Once a 2024 application is approved, senior residents must reapply annually for the tax relief program.
