Two Massachusetts hospitals owned by bankrupt Steward Health Care are preparing to close next week.About 1,200 employees will be out of work when Carney Hospital in Dorchester and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer shut their doors.Earlier this month, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu wrote a letter to the Carney Hospital landlords, urging them to use the property for health care purposes. “We need health care access on that site. The city will do whatever it takes, in whatever configuration, to make that happen,” Wu said. “We are continuing to work through a really complicated process with the state and the governor, who’s doing a great job, trying to manage a whole lot of impacts from Steward’s greed and the actions that have taken place.”The state said it has staff on site and is meeting one-on-one with workers to connect people with new jobs.Dallas-based Steward Health Care announced in July that it planned to close the two hospitals amid bankruptcy proceedings. The troubled company is attempting to sell its other Massachusetts hospitals.
