Better Call Behnken helps woman after tax paid on wrong home, mortgage payment went up

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two months after US Bank paid property taxes on the wrong house and assessed Patricia Bacon with a gigantic shortfall, the mistake has been fixed.

It took a little Better Call Behnken intervention.

“I can’t thank you enough,” Bacon said. “You are a miracle worker. Something that took me two and half months to try to resolve, you got done in one day. I’m so excited.”

Bacon called Better Call Behnken for help after US Bank paid her tax bill and the tax bill on an unrelated, much larger, home in Orange County. She had a shortfall of $7,476 and was left with higher mortgage payments.

“They were not budging,” Bacon said. “They were going to make me do research for an issue that I didn’t create. They created this issue.”

After Consumer Investigator Shannon Behnken got involved, things changed quickly.

US Bank sent this statement:

“The issue involved incorrect information from a third party, and once it was brought to our attention we took steps to correct it. We regret the inconvenience it caused and have been working directly with the client to resolve the issue.”

Bacon says the bank followed up with a phone call to apologize, and even threw in a credit for her property taxes.
