Young entrepreneurs get their first bank loan

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local kids can learn about becoming an entrepreneur as part of a program coming up later this month.

The program is called Lemonade Day, and each year kids are encouraged to participate to learn about how banks can help individuals get the capital needed to set up a business.

The first step of the lemonade day program took place Tuesday, its Bank Loan and Brand Your Stand day, and an associated event occurred in Sullivan.

First Farmers Bank and Trust teamed up with Chances and Services for Youth to teach kids how to take out a small business loan to fund their coming lemonade stands.

Then on Lemonade Day, the kids will each operate their own lemonade stand business.

Bank employees walked the young entrepreneurs through the loan application process.

“They learn a lot about financial literacy, but also the program teaches the Spin Save Share model, so they work through an online curriculum and it teaches the kids all about how to start a business and what goes into actually running a business,” Director of Wabash Valley Lemonade Day Emily Freeman said.

Lemonade Day will be June 28 and 29, locals should see plenty of stands throughout Terre Haute and Sullivan.
