SBA offers disaster loans to businesses, residents hit by June 29 storms

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The U.S. Small Business Administration is now providing low-interest disaster loans for residents, businesses and nonprofits affected by storms from June 29.

After a request from Gov. Mike Kehoe on July 25, SBA issued a disaster declaration for the counties of Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Lawrence, Polk and Webster.

Businesses and nonprofits can apply for up to $2 million in loans to repair or replace damaged real estate, equipment, inventory or other business assets. Homeowners can apply for up to $500,000 to repair or replace their primary home, and residents can apply for up to $100,000 in loans to repair or replace personal property such as clothing, cars, furniture and appliances.

SBA says applicants may also be eligible for a loan increase of up to 20% of their physical damage for future disaster protection and mitigation, which can be used for insulating pipes, walls and attics, weather stripping doors and windows, and installing storm windows.

Interest rates are as low as 4% for businesses, 3.625% for nonprofits and 2.813% for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years, according to the SBA. Interest will not accrue and payments are not due until 12 months from the first loan disbursement date.

Those affected by the June 29 storms can apply at sba.gov/disaster. The deadline to return physical damage applications is Sept. 26, 2025, and the deadline to return economic injury applications is April 28, 2026.

Customer service representatives will be available at the Greene County Disaster Loan Outreach Center to help answer questions about disaster loans and help fill out applications.
