Fort Worth Helps Residents Avoid Code Violations With Free Tool Loans

Fort Worth residents can now borrow pressure washers and yard carts through the city’s Mobile Tool Shed program, expanding free access to home maintenance equipment.

The pilot program, which launched in March, already provides lawn mowers, string trimmers, and blowers delivered directly to residents’ homes. The new additions aim to help homeowners tackle expensive maintenance projects themselves while preventing code violations that burden both residents and city resources.

Professional pressure washing typically costs between $500 and $1,500 for tasks like cleaning driveways, patios, and home siding. Now residents can complete these projects for free by checking out equipment through the Mobile Tool Shed.

The program also offers 96-gallon green yard carts that normally sell for $75 through the city. Residents can borrow these reusable containers, fill them with yard waste, set them out on collection day, and return them at no charge.

The Mobile Tool Shed currently serves three Fort Worth neighborhoods: Worth Heights, Seminary, and Fairhaven. City officials plan to expand the program’s reach as demand grows.

Fort Worth’s Code Compliance department created the initiative to make property maintenance more accessible and affordable for residents. By providing free equipment, the city helps homeowners avoid violations while reducing costly abatement procedures.

Residents can request tools through the Mobile Tool Shed website or subscribe to City News for program updates.
