WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County officials approved $17 million in funding for six different projects in the area.
After county council approval Wednesday night, the bonds are off to the bank for their green light.
If approved by Moody’s and S&P Global, County Executive Julie Giordano said Emergency Services, the public library, the Civic Center, Recreation and Parks, and the solid waste division will be able to start on their respective projects.
“The bond money is not even issued until November, so that’s another thing that determines what can be included in this. It’s, ‘Hey, can you wait until November, sometimes December, to get this money,” said Giordano.
Director of Recreation Parks and Tourism, Steve Miller said the Mason Dixon Sports Complex is waiting on its share of $1.5 million to begin phase two of its project, enhancing public safety at the facility.
A big part of the project is parking. One of the main things we’re trying to address is a safety issue,” said Miller. “Currently, people park across the street, over the railroad tracks, so they’re having to cross a busy street to get to and from the park.”
With big plans for the Complex, Giordano said the funding will help sustain it for years to come.
“We have so many different stakeholders involved– the town, the little league, the county, there’s so many people involved. Any time you can have a project with stakeholders that are going to be positively affected, it’s a good thing,” said Giordano.
