Two Huron County communities receive funds for water infrastructure projects

Two Huron County communities will receive funds to help improve water infrastructure, according to a news release.

The city of Willard will receive $1,539,715 in gap funding toward a water system improvement project that will benefit 10,000 people, the release said.

The village of New London will receive $260,600 in gap funding to replace 2,500 feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer, benefitting 96 people, according to the release.

State Sen. Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) announced the investment of $4,051,170 into the Second Senate District in grant awards to help improve water infrastructure, benefitting more than 13,000 Ohioans, the release said.

The funding is part of the sixth round of the Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Grant Program, according to the release.

“Our cities and villages provide critical services to residents, including maintaining essential infrastructure,” Gavarone said in the release. “This investment from the BUILDS program will help our communities make necessary upgrades that will directly serve our residents and better their quality of life.”

Ohio BUIILDS has provided nearly $620 million in grant dollars to support local water projects in all 88 counties since 2021, the release said.
