Sherrill qualifies for matching funds with $1.5 million post-primary haul

Mikie Sherrill has raised almost $1.5 million since winning the Democratic gubernatorial primary on June 10 and has submitted over $1.3 million toward matching funds.

Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli, who announced on July 16 that he’d hit the $580,000 threshold to qualify for matching funds, has raised over $1.8 million for the general election and submitted almost $1.3 million for matching funds.

The state offers a $2-to-$1 match of contributions for Democratic, Republican, and independent candidates who hit the threshold.

Candidates may receive up to $12.5 million in public funds, subject to a $2-for-$1 match, in the general election.  That comes with a $18.5 million spending cap, excluding super PACs and independent expenditures.  The contribution limit is $5,800.

If the match is approved, Sherrill and Ciattarelli could receive roughly $1.4 million in matching funds on their first submission.  The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission distributed over $37.5 million in matching funds in the primary election, a record-setting amount.  Sherrill and Ciattarelli both qualified for the full match of $5.5 million.

“Mikie Sherrill has the momentum as the general election campaign is in full swing, and will have the resources it takes to hold Jack Ciattarelli accountable for his ‘100% MAGA’ loyalty pledge to Trump,” said Alex Ball, Sherrill’s campaign manager.  “As Ciattarelli is bruised from a nasty primary fight and is underwater in public polling, our campaign will continue to outline Mikie’s positive vision for New Jersey, in sharp contrast to a Trump lackey like Jack Ciattarelli whose agenda will kill jobs, raise costs for utilities and healthcare, and hike taxes in New Jersey.”

Ciattarelli’s campaign manager, Eric Arpert, said New Jersey is “ready for change.”

“That’s why our momentum continues to grow after Jack’s overwhelming primary victory, just over 20 days ago, with new donations large and small pouring in every day from all over New Jersey,” Arpert stated. “Mikie Sherrill is not going to out-work Jack Ciattarelli – all gas, no brakes – and to date, she hasn’t been able to out-raise him either.  Voters from Cape May to Sussex Counties and everywhere in between clearly recognize that Jack is the candidate who can deliver the type of serious, bold, and permanent change that we so desperately need. It really is time, and this campaign isn’t slowing down.”
