‘Seize the Day’: Amer’s Epilepsy Trail Run raises funds for thousands living with epilepsy

MENDON, N.Y. – Runners gathered for the 4th annual “Seize the Day – Amer’s Epilepsy Trail Run” at Mendon Ponds Park. The event featured a 5K, 10K, and a mile walk, raising funds to support thousands of people with epilepsy.

This year’s race chair is Nyla Armbruster, a 15-year-old student at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School. Her
brother, Amer, an avid runner and former member of his high school’s cross-country, Nordic skiing, and track teams, was diagnosed with juvenile absence epilepsy in 2019. Combining his passions for both running and supporting those with epilepsy, Amer founded Seize the Day: Amer’s Epilepsy Trail Run in 2022.

Now that Amer is at college, Nyla has taken over the promotion and fundraising for this event as race chair. Nyla is “proud to take [the event] over and try to build on what he has created.”

The event has been a significant source of funding for epilepsy programs.

“They’ve raised enough money through this event for the last four years. It’s funded a lot of our programs for people with epilepsy, our camps, our scholarship program, teen education programs. We couldn’t do what we do if it wasn’t for the help of people like Nyla and her family,” officials said.
