Real Madrid consider shock sale of forward to generate funds – report

Real Madrid showed barely any spine against Barcelona in the first half of the Copa del Rey final earlier this week. The second half, however, saw them more inspired in the attack and creating chances with ease.

The one obvious difference in personnel between the two periods was the introduction of Kylian Mbappe in place of Rodrygo Goes.

The Frenchman brought incisiveness and life to Real Madrid attack, something the team struggled for with Rodrygo on the field.

A complicated situation

As relayed in a recent report by AS, the Clasico may well be the turning point in the young Brazilian’s career that even places his future away from Real Madrid.

Rodrygo is indeed a part of the fabulous four in Real Madrid’s attack alongside Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham. However, as per the report, Los Blancos could now consider parting ways with hi in the summer to generate funds.

Mbappe is Real Madrid’s leader in attack for the long haul and has established himself as a trusted starter alongside Bellingham.

Vinicius Jr, moreover, has agreed a contract extension with the club until 2030 only recently and it is clear that Real Madrid have him in their plans more than they do Rodrygo.

The current season has made it clear that a forward four is not a sustainable model going ahead and it thus looks set that Rodrygo will be the player sacrificed. Moreover, Los Blancos even see him as a player with a reasonable market value who they can cash in on.

It will all boil down to Rodrygo’s decision and willingness to leave, something that will undoubtedly be tied to his prominence.

Given his lack of minutes and the departure of Carlo Ancelotti who was his biggest defender, he could well make a shock departure in June.
