N. Baltimore creates new funds, honors quiz team

The Powell Elementary School Quiz Bowl team won this year’s Northwest Ohio Quiz Bowl League tournament. Front row, from left, are Bentivolio Hixson, Nolan Perry and Emily Campise. Back row, from left, are Coach Allison Coldren, Shawn Albright, Ismena Hixson, Jackson Sharninghouse, and Coach Megan Howard.

NORTH BALTIMORE — The North Baltimore Board of Education created two new funds for the district.

The board met on Tuesday.

The board established funds for employee benefits self-insurance and termination benefits.

“The goal of approving these funds is to provide more options when planning for the future given the uncertainty of school funding. General fund dollars can be transferred to the above fund codes,” said Tony Fenstermaker, treasurer. “(One fund) is primarily used for severance when staff retire. This is in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.”

Also at the meeting, the Powell Elementary Quiz Bowl team was recognized for their successful season. For the first time in 19 years, the team won this year’s quiz bowl tournament. The tournament was sponsored by the Northwest Ohio Quiz Bowl League.

“The kids deserved their successful season. They’ve worked really hard,” said Superintendent Ryan Delaney. “The entire community is proud of them.”

The next board meeting will be held on May 20 at 6 p.m. in the North Baltimore HS/MS Building.
