GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – Lace up your sneakers and get ready to run for a good cause!
The Goose Creek Police Department’s annual Hot Pursuit 5K will take place on Saturday, June 8 at the Goose Creek Municipal Complex.
Money raised through the event will support some of the department’s community-driven initiatives like ‘Operation Christmas Joy’ and ‘Shop with a Badge’.
“That’s where we choose children from the community either via the victim’s advocate’s office, SROs, or just children that we’ve come in contact with that might need a little extra love and attention over Christmas,” explained Officer Sarah Midgett. “We take them shopping and really spread the Christmas joy with them.”
The race – now in its 6th year – will start at the municipal complex and traverse paved hiker/biker trails and roadways before returning to the complex. It will also include a free half-mile kids run along a path around the lake.
Awards will be given to the top three male and female racers in several age groups. The first 500 runners to finish will receive a medal.
“We’ll have a DJ out there, we have a fun run race for the kids that’s free of charge, plenty of vendors out there,” said Chief LJ Roscoe.
The main race will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the kids’ race will happen an hour before.
