Local groups can apply through June 6 for Strategic Fuels Wildfire Mitigation Grant funds to do projects that lower the wildfire risk in the county, according to a release.
Applicants can be local government entities in Boulder County, private utility companies, ditch companies, water suppliers, state agencies that own or manage land in Boulder County, homeowner associations or nonprofit associations. The grants are funded by the Wildfire Mitigation Tax, which was approved by voters in 2022.
So far, the program has awarded more than $1.5 million to support projects such as grassland mowing and grazing, forest thinning, prescribed burns and the development of Community Wildfire Protection Plans.
