Funds secured for Casa Blanca Golf Course upgrades

WEBB COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) – The Casa Blanca Golf Course received a significant financial boost on Friday, June 21, with over $56,000 granted to enhance its facilities and meet increasing demand from avid golfers.

Management from Casa Blanca Golf Course presented their plans before the Commissioners Court, aiming to use the funds for projects like adding sod and replacing worn-out equipment. Despite these needs, General Manager Oscar Urdiales highlighted the course’s success.

“We’re growing faster than we can keep up with, which is a great thing,” Urdiales stated. “One area we need to improve is space. Another banquet area and a larger meeting room for corporate events would definitely help us out.”

Owned by Webb County and operated by Touch Stone Golf, Casa Blanca Golf Course has exceeded expectations under their management. Commissioner John Galo of Precinct 3 noted their financial progress.

“They’re $150,000 ahead compared to last year over just three months,” Galo remarked. “We’re keeping tabs. We’re asking questions such as if they can identify where their money is coming in. What’s their most profitable thing? I was asking questions about the food items, and I think it’s probably just not coded correctly.”

With popularity comes the need for additional investments, such as increasing the number of golf carts from 80 to 100. Galo also addressed upcoming challenges due to highway expansion impacting the course’s layout.

“We’re going to be redesigning the holes on that side, and then making some clubhouse improvement and parking lot improvements because we’re already out of parking,” Galo explained. “We’re going to need a bigger barn for all the carts that we have. I think you heard the discussion today that we’re already booked for the rest of the year.”

Architects are on board to realize these improvements, with management scheduled to update the Commissioners Court quarterly on progress and financial performance. Future presentations will focus on identifying revenue sources to guide further expansion.
