The Scottsdale Community College Music Department will host its 11th annual showcase in February to recognize it’s most talented faculty and staff.
The event is slated for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Performing Arts Center, 9000 E. Chaparral Road in Scottsdale.
Organizers say the purpose of event is not only to showcase students and faculty, but to raise funds for scholarships that help students. For many students, scholarships are the deciding factor on whether they can continue their education at SCC and beyond.
The department has sponsorships available
At this time, we are reaching out to the community for sponsorship opportunities ranging from $50 up to $3,000 and more.
Funds from the program go toward scholarships among other purposes. Arian Robinson, the college’s George Benson Scholarship recipient in 2013, said the funds received helped to propel him into a career as a professional drummer, percussionist, and teacher in Hamburg, Germany.
“The George Benson Scholarship helped me in many ways, but I think what is important is the opportunities it gave me,” he said. “For example, with the money from this scholarship I was able to pay for my entire last semester at SCC…This helped me gain experience as well as get a head in my studies to allow me to have more time to focus on my craft/discipline.”
