BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A new boutique in downtown Bryan is offering shoppers more than just a chance to update their wardrobes. It’s offering them the chance to change lives.
Stage Left, owned by Marcy Bartula, is a new shop where every dollar spent directly supports her nonprofit organization Different Day. The nonprofit’s mission is to help women who are survivors of addiction, prostitution, and trafficking.
“They are just the most amazing women that you could ever come across, despite the things they’ve been through,” Bartula explained. “Being able to walk alongside them in this life is the most incredible honor that I could ever ask for. I know that God put me on this earth to do this work.”
Different Day provides housing, therapy, employment, and a supportive community for women working to rebuild their lives. Bartula’s efforts recently earned her the “Be Remarkable” award, a recognition presented by KBTX-TV and Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers.
Elizabeth Schmidt, Bartula’s aunt and the person who nominated her for the award, praised her relentless dedication.
“She’s been in this field for a very long time. She’s worked with CPS, Scotty’s House, CASA, and Unbound,” listed Schmidt. “She saw a need for more services and one day came home and said, ‘I’m going to start my own foundation.’ I said, ‘okay,’ and here we are.”
Since its launch, Different Day has served 35 survivors in its first year- a testament, Bartula said, to the urgent need for such services.
“At Different Day, we understand that every scar has a story. It is our belief that connection and love are among the most powerful forces in the universe to begin healing,” she said. “This is the place where restoration begins.”
The organization’s holistic approach includes therapies such as equine therapy and expressive arts. That’s in addition to life skills programs and mentorship opportunities, helping survivors navigate their transformative journeys.
