DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – The DeKalb Humane Society shares it is raising funds for a dog injured after being struck by a car.
According to the DeKalb Humane Society, a dog named Scarlett was seen by the Animal Care Clinic in Auburn on Saturday, May 18, after DeKalb Humane Society staff reported she had been struck by a car.
Following a physical exam and x-rays, the Animal Care Clinic said Scarlett has a severe pelvic fracture as well as blood in her stool, which is suggestive of internal bleeding.
According to Animal Care Clinic, surgery is required for Scarlett’s severe pelvic fracture and should be done by an orthopedist.
For now, Scarlett has been prescribed pain medications and is being monitored by the DeKalb Humane Society.
Both organizations say Scarlett’s surgery should be completed within the next few weeks, but that she is likely to recover well given her age.
At this time, DeKalb Humane Society does not have a confirmed cost for Scarlett’s surgery, as it requires a specialist.
However, the DeKalb Humane Society says the surgery will cost between $5,000 and $10,000.
Scarlett is also in need of a medical foster, who she would be with until the operation can be done and until she finds a home.
DeKalb Humane Society says any help is appreciated and encourages donations and fosters to reach out to contribute toward Scarlett’s care.
