Compete for Causes, the local group that pairs fitness and fundraising with its charity fitness competitions, recently made a $32,200 contribution to Father Joe’s Villages. A total of 147 people got moving in the month of May to raise funds for the Saint Margaret of Cortona Harbor program at Father Joe’s Villages, which helps young pregnant mothers in need.
Compete for Causes is a grassroots organization founded by a group of close friends in 2023 as a way to make a difference while chasing personal fitness goals. Over the last couple of years, they have run several rounds of competitions, raising a total of $194,000 for a variety of nonprofits. In the competitions, movement and workouts are tracked by smart watches and phones through Apple Health.
For the 21-day contest in May, Compete for Causes earned $24,600 in pledge commitments, including 11 corporate sponsorships. One sponsor, Body Fit Carmel Valley (located in Torrey Corner shopping center), offered a free workout class. Participants chipped in $7,700 and 90% were able to achieve their customized fitness goals.
Compete for Causes is taking the summer off but expects to return in the fall. For more information visit competeforcauses.com
