MISSOULA, Mont. — For a decade the Big Shindig has been a car show staple in downtown Kalispell, and this year’s event was held Saturday, despite the rain. There were silent and live auctions. The proceeds benefit Mikayla’s Miracles and Blessings Foundation.
“I’m very happy with the turnout,” said Sabrina Wisher-DeWitt of Mikayla’s Miracles and Blessings Foundation. “With the rain and everything, everyone showed up, fantastic. It’s been raining since 5 o’clock, but we all showed up.”
Those who showed up brought their checkbooks, bidding on items for a good cause. Despite the rain, there was no way Sabrina was cancelling the event. It’s all about the kids.
“Even with the rain, the community just rallies and comes together because they want to make a difference,” Wisher-DeWitt said. “This community’s awesome. They are giving. They are loving. The want to help these kids. They want to make a difference. I had a lot of people tell me ‘let’s cancel, let’s cancel,’ but God always shows up.”
One item even went for $10,000. People are willing to give more because they know the money is helping the community.
“It stays right here in our valley, and I believe they want to help make a difference because a lot times, people when you donate you don’t know where the money goes,” Wisher-DeWitt said. “This way, they know exactly where it’s going and staying right here in the valley.”
And who doesn’t love fast cars, hot rods, and vintage vehicles? There were lots of cool things to see on Saturday. NBC Montana’s Jason Hurst grew up loving the television show the Dukes of Hazard and he immediately spotted the General Lee.
“Montana homeboys we are amazing, their hearts are huge. The Big Sky Country, we’re the Big Heart Country … We had Mustang Shelbys here that were $2 million. What it tells right there is that yes there are cars, but their heart wants to make a difference.”
