Sitting Congressman Dan Crenshaw Pushes the Envelope on Campaign Finance Laws By Promoting a Product

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), who previously made headlines for being accused of insider trading, has introduced a new innovation in flouting federal ethics regulations on elected officials. Crenshaw took to Instagram on Saturday to promote a gun holster made by a company, Endex Fitness, which is operated by Crenshaw’s campaign. Crenshaw described the holster as making the wearer look “stylish” and “sleek” without alerting anyone that you are carrying a concealed weapon. Crenshaw called the holster “the best on the market.” “Here’s what we did,” Crenshaw began before explaining how the holster was designed by, “our brand, Endex.” Crenshaw did clarify in the caption of the post claiming he doesn’t make a “dime” off of the holster. He added that the holster was “campaign merchandise,” before saying that, actually, his campaign “barely gets” any of the profits because they are split between all GOP House and Senatorial races. The Endex Fitness website also added that “transactions on this site are contributions to Dan Crenshaw Victory Committee.” It comes after a super PAC supporting Sen. Ted Cruz’s reelection campaign has received nearly $800,000 in receipts from the company that distributes the Texas Republican’s podcast, an arrangement that is attracting scrutiny from campaign finance experts. The Daily Beast reached out to Endex for comment but did not receive a reply at the time of publishing.
