Recognizing Inspirational & Ethical Leaders in the Financial Services Industry in Canada

CANNEX Issues Call for Nominations for the 2024 Alexander S. Melvin Award

TORONTO, June 12, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Alex S. Melvin was both an inspiration and a model of integrity for a generation of financial services leaders in Canada. The co-founder of CANNEX, Melvin led significant industry-wide initiatives through his participation in financial services associations and committees, and worked to increase transparency around products and pricing for Canadians. For those who knew Melvin, the most consistent takeaway is that he made the industry better.

For almost a decade since he passed away in 2015, the Alexander S. Melvin Award for Inspirational & Ethical Leadership has recognized industry leaders who embody the leadership values Melvin lived. These have included Dennis Craig, vice president, managing general agents & national account relationships at RBC Insurance, Gord Mooney, president emeritus of General Bank of Canada, and Terri Botosan, chief executive officer of HUB Financial Inc.

“As leaders it is our responsibility to continue to earn Canadians’ trust in the financial services industry,” said CANNEX CEO, Lowell Aronoff, who co-founded CANNEX with Melvin. “The Alex Melvin Award recognizes those who both embody and model values that are integral to it.”

The Alexander S. Melvin Award Committee is seeking the nomination of leaders in the Canadian banking and insurance industries for its 2024 honoree. The award, which includes a donation of $5,000 to a charitable organization selected by the winner, will be announced on October 14 and presented at the CANNEX Term Deposit Conference on October 29.

Nominations for the 2024 award will be accepted through August 16, 2024. The awards committee of distinguished representatives from across the financial industry will review submissions and announce the 2024 winner in advance of the conference. The award is underwritten by CANNEX.

“We welcome submissions by companies or individuals for leaders who have made the industry better through innovation, technology, entrepreneurial spirit, collaborative leadership, and mentoring,” said Dennis Craig of RBC Insurance. “The award is an opportunity to recognize those who make a difference in areas including the leadership of financial service institutions, the implementation of significant industry initiatives, philanthropy, as well as fostering diversity of thought and culture.”
