Noah Urban, who refers to himself as “King Bob,” was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges stemming from his involvement in at least $800,000 in stolen cryptocurrency.
Urban also received three years of supervised release and agreed to pay $13 million in restitution to the 59 victims, as reported by News4JAX.
From Aug. 2022 and March 2023, Urban stole the victims’ personal information and used a method known as “SIM swapping” where he would take these individuals’ cell phone numbers and put them on phones that he and others associated with him could operate. They would then change the password to their cryptocurrency accounts and confirm the changes via text message.
Urban, who is believed to be a member of a group known as Scattered Spider, has been connected to leaking the unreleased music of such artists as Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, and Ariana Grande. None of them were mentioned in his case and no charges related to the leaks were filed.
In April, Urban struck a plea deal for his case in Florida, as well as one in California. For his case in Florida, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Urban pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in California.
