Man reports $40,000 fraudulently lost from his crypto account: University Heights police blotter


UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio —

Theft: Wrenford Road

At 10 a.m. April 21, a University Heights man arrived at the police department to report fraudulent activity on his Crypto Wallet Exchange.

The man stated that an unknown entity transferred $40,000 worth of bitcoin out of his account without his authorization. Police are investigating.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 4:20 p.m. April 21, police were dispatched to the Goodwill store at 13908 Cedar Road, on a report of a stolen bicycle.

At the store, officers spoke with the victim who stated his bicycle was taken by an unknown party at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Warrant arrest: Warrensville Center Road

At 11 p.m. April 21, an officer stopped a car at Warrensville Center and Cedar roads for a registration violation.

During the stop, it was learned that the driver, a Shaker Heights man, 25, was wanted on multiple warrants.

He was arrested on the warrants and cited for failure to reinstate and driving with expired plates.

Theft: South Green Road

At 11:40 a.m. April 23, an employee of Heinen’s grocery store, 2180 S. Green Road, reported that a theft had occurred a half-hour earlier.

The police report did not state the amount of the theft or whether there is a suspect.

Theft: Saybrook Road

At 3:30 p.m. April 23, a resident who lives in the 2500 block of Saybrook Road reported a package theft shortly after receiving a delivery notification from her doorbell camera.

Video showed a female suspect taking the package, which contained smoke and CO detectors valued at $288.68.

A report was taken and further investigation is pending.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 2:45 p.m. April 24, police were dispatched to Target, 14070 Cedar Road, on a report of a shoplifting incident.

The juvenile suspect, a Cleveland girl, 14, was alleged to have stolen $284.91 worth of merchandise.

After police gathered information, the juvenile was transported home. The girl faces a theft charge.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 1:50 p.m. April 25, officers were dispatched to Target on a theft report.

Loss prevention personnel apprehended a University Heights woman, 41. The theft totaled $99.48 worth of merchandise.

Police cited the woman for theft.

Traffic violations: Warrensville Center Road

At 1:05 a.m. April 26, an officer stopped a vehicle on Warrensville Center Road for multiple equipment, registration, and moving violations.

The driver, a Cleveland woman, 20, was also found to be in possession of marijuana. Police seized the marijuana.

Two 16-year-old female passengers were transported by police to their residence in Shaker Heights, advised for curfew violation, and turned over to a parent.

Also in the car was a man, 19, who was not charged.

Police cited the woman for expired license plates and making an improper lane change.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 1:35 p.m. April 26, police were called to Target where they arrested and charged with theft a Bedford woman, 21.

The woman is alleged to have stolen $162.98 worth of clothing merchandise.

Domestic violence: Cedar Road

At 4 p.m. April 26, officers were dispatched to the 13500 block of Cedar Road on a report of an incident that occurred in a home between a man and woman.

The woman was found to have minor injuries. Police arrested the 25-year-old University Heights man for domestic violence.

Warrant arrest: Warrensville Center Road

At 12:10 p.m. April 27, a Cleveland man, 20, went to the University Heights police station to obtain a tow release for his vehicle.

The man didn’t have the proper paperwork for the release, and was found to be wanted on an active Beachwood police warrant.

The man was turned over to BPD officers.

Theft: Warrensville Center Road

At 12:40 p.m. April 27, officers were dispatched to Macy’s, 2201 Warrensville Center Road, where loss prevention reported that it had detained a 38-year-old Cleveland man for theft.

The stolen merchandise totaled $617.50. Police cited the man for theft.

Disorderly conduct: Cedar Road

At 7:45 p.m. April 27, officers responded to Whole Foods, 13998 Cedar Road, on a report of an unwanted guest soliciting inside the store.

The 27-year-old Cleveland woman was detained and cited for disorderly conduct after kicking a passing car in the store’s parking lot.

She was released at the scene and issued a court date.
