On August 5, 2025, the banking system in World of Warcraft will be changed forever. After over 20 years, Blizzard has completely changed the MMO’s banking system, and many players are just completely confused.
Coming in the 11.2 update, fans have described the new system as “exclusively a good thing” with many creating point-by-point guides to help long-time players through this scary transition. While it may be terrifying to have your entire banking structure changed, it also appears to be good for everyone.
World of Warcraft’s Bank update is good for everyone
First and foremost, the new World of Warcraft banking system will be more efficient and cheaper for everyone when it launches next month. Right now, players purchase bank bag slots to stash bags inside banks, but now players will just purchase storage tabs that can hold any item in the game.
Yes, Reagent Banks are, technically, gone. However, the new version of the banks work as a carbon copy of the Warbound Bank with more functionality such as crafting in any tab and the ability to assign tabs to Reagent Only if you want.
The main bonus is that not only are banks now simpler to use, but also considerably less expansive. At the time of writing, purchasing the maximum number of slots for the bank costs 30,000, but now it costs just 9,000.
Additionally, any player who is currently level 80 in World of Warcraft will have their bank upgraded to max slots for free.
“Bank tabs are automatically unlocked on login. At level 80, all tabs are unlocked automatically,” Blizzard explained. “For characters below level 80, the number of tabs available will be based on how many bag slots (including reagent bank and void storage) were available to the character before the update.”
One player explained that there is simply “no down-side” to the new banking system at all, saying: “There are no negative consequences to this change. There is no way that I can see to look at this as ‘bad’ in any way. This is an objective upgrade to available storage for everyone.”
Of course, the one remaining worry is whether or not Blizzard messes up the transition to the new banking system which, based on the based, has a decent chance of happening. However, as far as the new system goes, it’s a great improvement, and just one of the long-needed overhauls WoW requires.
