Police in Portland, Maine, are investigating two home burglaries that occurred over the weekend.Police said they believe the same person broke into a home on Dirigo Street after 3 a.m. Sunday and a home on Brighton Avenue about an hour later. The homes are in close proximity, officials said.The person stole cash, debit cards and car keys from the Dirigo Street homeowner’s purse, police said, before stealing the vehicle and striking a curb on Lowell Street, rendering the vehicle disabled.Sometime after 4 a.m., a person entered the Brighton Avenue home and stole a loaded handgun and contents of wallets, police said. The burglar entered a bedroom and woke one of the residents before fleeing.Police said both homes were unlocked at the time. Homeowners in the area are asked to check their video surveillance cameras for “any suspicious activity” between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact Portland police at 207-874-8575.
